Letter 10 of St. Mary Magdalen de' Pazzi
to the Reverend Mother, Sister Catherine de Ricci:

Particular of a painting of Sr Catherine de Ricci in ecstacy

(...)  I oblige you, I say, in the name of the Word Made Flesh, to give me light in regard to what you have already learned-- I am speaking of His work and His will-- whether it be truly His work or not. I beg you to tell me, according to the light that you will have; and to tell also if the intimate union that I have with God, sometimes being constrained by God Himself, proceeds from Him.

I beg you, through that fire of love that moved God to sent the Eternal Word to create and then recreate us and lead us into the garden of the holy religious life, to make your answer known to me as soon as possible and reply to my request! And should you have any inspiration and light, and the opportunity to make your answer known to me before the feast of the glorious Assumption of Mary, I would appreciate it very much, in order to be able to manifest this work of God more securely, if it is His; and if it is not, to leave it aside completely and not go any further.  (...)

From our monastery of Saint Mary of the Angels near Saint Fredian's, on the glorious fest of the enamored levite Lawrence [August 10], 1586.
