DESCRIPTION

It is customary after international meetings for the Prior General and his Council to send a message to the whole Order which summarizes the results of the gathering and indicates policies, ideas, and suggestions for the future.

The work of the General Congregation celebrated in Saõ Paolo, Brazil, in September 2005 was focused very intensely on preparing for the 2007 General Chapter. The discussions and debates did not lend themselves easily to a summary, nor were any policies formulated which could be communicated to the Order. A full account of the meeting will be published in Analecta and will include the reports that were presented and all the documentation generated by the participants.

In the meantime, however, it was thought useful to publish the major talks given at the General Congregation by the Prior General, Fr. Gustavo Gutiérrez, Bishop Paulo Cardoso, and Fr. Francisco de Sales. The hope is that these conferences will prove as illuminating and inspiring to those who read them, as they did to those who listened to them.
