Addendum 1:
Proposals for the 2007 General Chapter

1) Communications Teams

Each province will create a communications team within each province. The purpose of this group would be to organize the mass communication program of the province, both internal and external, needs identification, policy development, and strategies for effective communications. This would include print media, audio-visual, interpersonal and digital communications.

2) Regional Gatherings in Communications

Each region of the Order would have a gathering of the technology experts from the provinces and monasteries in that region. The purpose of these gatherings would be:

a) to study the application of various technologies to the communications objectives of the provinces, monasteries, and Order.

b) confront challenges on the Order level:

i) lack on on-going formation in general in the Provinces (It is possible that some of the new technologies could help us provide on-going formation?);
ii) building involvement in Provincial Chapters/Order wide meetings;
iii) other areas identified by the General Council and the Provinces.

3) Training in mass media audio-visual techniques

Provinces would encourage members to participate in courses or workshops focused on developing audio-visual (photography, music, etc) skills.

4) On-going Study of Communications

That the system of communications within the Order, the Provinces, and houses, and their relationship to one and other be studied and specific recommendations for improvement be implemented.

5) Restructuring of CITOC (Office of Information for the Carmelite Order)

a) that a team, trained in communications and committed to working together through the Order’s Communications Office in Rome to implement the Order’s Communications Plan (realizing that full time presence may not be required by all);
b) that a technology section of CITOC be established to resource the various websites of the Order (Edizioni, Institutum, the Commissions, the Virtual Carmelite museum, etc;
c) that financial resources be provided for translation of materials into the three official languages of the Order by trained translators.

6) Recognizing Initiatives

That initiatives in the audio-visual communications (eg Peru, Carpineto Romano, Zimbabwe, the Philippines, etc) be commended.

7) That the annual World Communications Day be celebrated in the Provinces.
