ISTITUZIONE E GESTA DEI PRIMI
MONACI
FILIPPO RIBOTTraduzione integrale da latino di
Edmundo Coccia
Libreria Editrice Vaticana
Roma 2002
The new editor of the Institutum Carmelitanum’s
scientific journal Carmelus, Edmund Coccia, translated this
important foundational Carmelite work from the Speculum
Carmelitarum. The Spaniard, Filippo Ribot, was not interested in
creating an historical nor a spiritual formulation as we understand
them today. Rather he wanted to give a poetic and mystical
projection of the work of the Carmelite Order, where the figures of
Elijah and Mary become allegorically represented and united in the
events on Mt. Carmel.

INTO THE LAND OF CARMEL
A LETTER OF THE PRIOR GENERAL TO THE CARMELITE
FAMILY ON THE OCCASION OF THE 550TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PAPAL BULL
"CUM NULLA"Centro Stampa Carmelitano
Rome 2002
An 18 page document addressed to the Carmelite
Family on the occasion on the celebration of the papal permission
for the prior of the Carmelite house in Florence to aggregate lay
people to the Order. It was considered the official recognition of
nuns, lay associations, and eventually active sisters as members of
the Order. While focusing on the importance to the Carmelite Family
of our nuns and lay Carmelites, this document provides a good
starting point for all Carmelites to reflect on the different ways
of living the fundamental Carmelite values.

BY FIRE INTO
LIGHT: FOUR CATHOLIC MARTYRS OF THE NAZI CAMPS
Joseph M. Malham
Peeters-Firey Arrow Series
Leuven 2002
The chronicles of the lives of Titus Brandsma, O.
Carm., Jacques de Jésus, O.C.D., Karl Leisner, and Edith Stein,
O.C.D.—a small selection of people, all of whom have in common that
they died in the same decade in the same cause—the defense of the
Faith. They teach us how to live the Faith and also how to die for
the Faith. Rather than a theological reflection or scholarly,
professional history, the author manages to enter into the spirit of
dedication of their lives in order to breathe life into them for the
reader. |
