Bernardus Tinselboer, O Carm. (Neer)

Fr. Bernardus, a member of the Dutch Province, died on July 11, 2005. He was 84 years old.

Fr. Bernardus was born on February 4, 1921 in Zenderen (Netherlands). He made his first profession on September 14, 1942 and was ordained priest on July 11, 1948 in Merkelbeek.


David Kearns, O. Carm. (SEL-NY)

Fr. David Kearns, O. Carm., a member of the North American Province of St. Elias, died at St. Simon Stock Priory in the Bronx, NY, on Monday, July 25, 2005. He was 71 years old.

Fr. David was born in Brooklyn, NY, on May 7, 1934. He made his first profession as a Carmelite on September 8, 1955 and was ordained priest on May 27, 1961. He taught in the Carmelite seminary and worked in vocation ministry. Later he was a teacher and parish priest. From 1998 until his death, he celebrated "the workers’ Mass" in Yankee Stadium each Sunday when the New York Yankees baseball team were playing home games, an assignment that the Carmelites in the Bronx have had since the 1970’s.


Cecil Pickert, O Carm. (PCM)

Fr. Cecil Pickert, a member of the PCM, died on July 28, 2005. He was 73 years old.

Fr. Cecil was born on June 29, 1932 in Scipio, Kansas (USA). He made his first profession on September 1, 1951 and was ordained priest on May 31, 1958.

He spent many years in educational ministry, formation of young Carmelites, and parish work. He was living at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, DC at the time of his death.


Anastácio Palmeira, O. Carm. (Pern)

Frei Anastácio Palmeira, a member of the Pernambuco (Brazil) Province, died on July 30, 2005 in Rio de Janerio where he had lived for many years.

Anastácio was born on December 6, 1924 in Coruipe (Pernambuco). He made his first profession on February 9, 1947 and was ordained priest on December 8, 1952.


Elisea Oostwegel, O. Carm. (HER)

Sr. Elisea Oostwegel died on Septembre 13, 2005 in "Huize de Berg" in Heerlen, Netherlands. She was a member of the community of ‘Flos Carmeli’ in Heerlen/Echt.

Sr. Elisea was born on the 7th of February 1912 in Heerlen. She made her profession July 2, 1937. Elisea was a strong woman, a woman of character. She served the community of Flos Carmeli but also other communities who needed help such as Zenderen, Boxmeer and Vilvoorde (Belgium).

Illness in the last years forced her to live a life in silent praying. She had to move to KVH Echt, a house of care for religious women, and later to a nursung home in Heerlen. Sr Elisea put her faith in God and in Mary, Mother of Carmel They gave her strength. She was buried in the cemetery in Echt.


Norberto Broenink, O. Carm. (Flum)

Fr. Norbert Broenink, O. Carm., a member of the Rio de Janeiro Province, died on September 27, 2005 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the age of 92.

Norbert was born on August 1, 1913 in Langeveen (Overijsel), Netherlands, and given the name Antonius. He made his first profession as a Carmelite in Brazil on January 19, 1937 and was ordained priest on December 8, 1941.

He was a great missionary, living for many years in Bahia. He also served as pastor of a parish in Minas Gerais. He lived in Rio de Janeiro the last 24 years of his life.


Mª Luisa Orellana García, O. Carm. (CAN)

Mother María Luisa Orellana García of the community of enclosed Carmelite nuns in Cañete la Real, Málaga, (Spain) died on September 28, 2005.

Sr. María Luisa, 89 years old, was born on November 16, 1915 in Benaocaz ((Cádiz), Spain. She entered the Carmelite monastery in Cañete on May 4, 1942. She made her first profession on May 28, 1944 and solemn profession on May 24, 1947.

During her 63 years of religious life, Sister was Director of Novices, treasurer, Councilor, and prioress for 40 years. She has left unforgettable vestiges with her closely held love for the whole world.


William O’Brien, O. Carm. (PCM)

Brother William O’Brien, a member of the PCM Province died in the early morning of October 12, 2005 at a nursing home in Syracuse, New York, where he was living.

Brother Bill was born on June 1, 1931 in Baldwinsville, NY. He made his first profession as a Carmelite on September 15, 1955. He was an accomplished organist and provided music during religious services at Mt. Carmel College in Niagara Falls, Canada, and at the novitiate for many years. In later years he was plagued with bad health.
