General Chapter of the Carmelite Sisters of Our Lady

The Congregation of Carmelite Sisters of Our Lady celebrated their General Chapter on April 20-25, 2006 at Stella Maris Retreat House in Bacong, Oriental Negros (Philippines).

Elected to serve in the Congregation’s leadership were:

Second General Council: Corazon Cecilia Untal, Carm. O.L.

Chapter of the Province of Malta

The Provincial Chapter in Malta was held May 1-5, 2006. The following were elected:

     1st Councilor: Charles Mallia, O. Carm.
     2nd Councilor: Maurice Abela, O. Carm.
     3rd Councilor: Michael Farrugia, O. Carm.

Electoral Chapter of the General Commissariat of "La Bruna"

The members of the General Commissariat of "La Bruna" met in Chapter May 8-10, 2006 at "Il Carmine Maggiore" in Naples. The Prior General, Joseph Chalmers, presided at the Chapter. He was assisted by Rafael Leiva Sánchez, O. Carm., the General Councilor for the Mediterranean Region.

Elected to serve the Commissariat during this meeting were:
     Commissary General:  Alfredo Di Cerbo, O. Carm.
     1st Councilor: Michele Leccisotto, O. Carm.
     2nd Councilor: Luciano Di Cerbo, O. Carm.

Chapter of the Province of Poland (Pol)

The Provincial Chapter in Poland was held May 15-19, 2006. The meeting began with solemn concelebrated Mass on May 14th with the parish community. The Prior General, Joseph Chalmers, presided at the Chapter. He was assisted by William J. Harry, O. Carm., the General Councilor for the region.

The following were elected:
     Prior Provincial: Dariusz Borek, O.Carm.
     1st Councilor: Tadeusz Popiela, O. Carm.
     2nd Councilor: Andrzej Zonko, O. Carm
     3rd Councilor: Piotr Spiller, O. Carm.
     4th Councilor: Józef Wojnarowski, O. Carm.

Chapter of the Italian Province (Ita)

     The Italian Province held their triennial Chapter in Sassone (Rome), Italy, from May 22-26, 2006 and May 29 - June 2, 2006, under the presidency of the Prior General, Joseph Chalmers, assisted by the Councilor General for the Region, Rafael Leiva Sanchez.
     On May 25th, the members of the Chapter traveled to Florence to participate in the opening of the year to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the death of St. Mary Magdalen de’ Pazzi.
     The Prior Provincial, Claudio Belloti, previously elected by mail, was confirmed during the Chapter by the Prior General. The following were elected during the Chapter:

     1st Councilor: Gian Domenico Meloni, O. Carm.
     2nd Councilor: Giuseppe Midili, O. Carm

Chapter of the Upper German Province (GerS)

     The Upper German Chapter was held in Springiersbach from June 5-10, 2006. The Prior General, Joseph Chalmers, presided with the assistance of the General Councilor for the Northern European Region, William J. Harry. Also present throughout the Chapter were Wilfried Wanjek, Prior Provincial, and Martin Segers, 2nd Provincial Councilor of the Lower German Province. Also participating were Sojan Neendoor, Commissary Provincial of India, and Edimilson Borges de Carvalho, Commissary Provincial of Parana.
     The Chapter approved the proposal to begin the process to establish a new province in India.

Elective Chapter of the Monastery of the "Purísima Sangre de Cristo" (ONT)

     On December 26, 2005, the Elective Chapter of the Carmelite monastery of the "Purísima Sangre de Cristo" in Onteniente (Valencia), Spain, was held on December 26, 2005.
     Elected to serve in the leadership of the Province were:

     The triennial elective chapter of the Carmelite monastery of Sta. Catalina in Aracena (Huelva), Spain, was celebrated on May 27, 2006.

Chapter of the Irish Province (Hib)

     The Irish Provincial Chapter was held at Gort Muire in Dublin from June 18 - 22, 2006. Confirmed to serve in the leadership of the Province were:

             1st Councilor: Richard Byrne, O. Carm.
             2nd Councilor: Christopher O’Donnell, O. Carm.
             3rd Councilor: James Murray, O. Carm.

     Fintan Burke confirmed Simplisio Manyika, O. Carm., as Commissary Provincial in Zimbabwe. Martin Kilmurray was appointed as Assistant Provincial.

Chapter of the Saint Elias Province (SEL)

     The Electoral Chapter of the Saint Elias (USA/Trinidad/Vietnam) Province was held in Esopus, New York from June 20-23, 2006. The Prior General, Joseph Chalmers, presided with the assistance of the General Councilor for the North American Region, William J. Harry.
