Adelina de San Ignacio, O. Carm. (VAL)

  Sr. Adelina de San Ignacio García García died at the Real Convento de la Santísima Encarnación del Verbo Divino in Valencia, Spain on September 15, 2005.

Sr. Adelina was born in Valencia on May 25, 1920, the feast of St. Mary Magdalene de’ Pazzi. She made her first profession on December 12, 1955.


Maria Mercè Salarich Subiranas, O. Carm. (BAR)

On October 16, 2005, Sr. Maria Mercè Salarich Subiranas, of the Barcelona monastery died at the age of 87 years. She was born on July 16, 1918 in Torrelló (Barcelona). Sister made her Simple Profession in the Carmelite monastery of La Presentación in Vic (Barcelona), Spain, on December 10, 1943. She served the community as prioress, Director of Novices, and Councilor.

The monastery of Vic merged with that of Encarnación in Barcelona and it was in this monastery in Barcelona that Sr. Mercè died.


Alberto Amador Mendoza, O. Carm. (Arag)

Br. Alberto Amador Mendoza, O. Carm., a member of the Argo-Valentine Province, died on October 17, 2005 in the Carmelite community of Zaragoza. He was 90 years old.

Br. Alberto was born in Terrinches (Ciudad Real), Spain on February 14, 1916. He made his first profession on November 1, 1947.

He lived most of his religious life in Zaragoza. For the last 40 years he was sacristan for the parish of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.


Paul Kirchner, O. Carm. (PCM)

The longest professed member of the PCM Province, Fr. Paul Kirchner, died on October 26, 2005. He had been a resident in a nursing home for a number of years. He was 90 years old.

Fr. Paul was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on February 11, 1915. He made his first profession on August 15, 1933 and was ordained priest on June 9, 1940.

He was noted for his years as teacher at Mount Carmel College in Niagara Falls, ONT where he introduced many of the Carmelites to his love of literature and theater. For many years he directed the Passion Play at Niagara which was very popular with the people of the town. Later he became a very popular pastor in New Jersey.


Jaime Andrade Bermudo, O. Carm.  (Baet)

Fr. Jaime Andrade Bermudo, 80 years old, died in the Red Cross Hospital of Seville, Spain on October 27, 2005 following a long illness.

Fr. Jaime was born in La Puebla de Cazalla (Seville), Spain, on April 30, 1925. He made his First Profession on September 8, 1942 and was ordained priest on May 21, 1948.

He was well known as a very dynamic and service oriented person. He did his theological studies in Rome where he received a Licentiate in Sacred Scriptures from the Pontifical Biblical Institute. He held many positions of responsibility in his province: formator, prior, and prior provincial for two terms. He was Secretary General of CONFER (Conference of Religious of Spain). He was elected General Councilor of the Carmelite Order during the General Chapter held in Majadahonda in 1977 and was General Delegate for the Nuns and the Afilliated Institutes and Congregations. He served in this role for 12 years.

For the last several years, he was a member of the community in Seville. The Carmelites and the members of the Third Order of Seville stayed with him during his illness. The Prior Provincial, in his funeral homily, reminded everyone that "death is the beginning of our eternal life, union with Jesus Christ ... Fr. Jaime waits for us to live in that same union with our God."


Simon Kenny, O. Carm. (PCM)

Fr. Simon Kenny, a member of the PCM Province, died on October 31, 2005 in Venice, Florida (USA) following a lengthy illness. He was 67 years old.

Simon was born on December 6, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois. He made his Simple Profession as a Carmelite on August 22, 1957 and was ordained priest on February 8, 1964. He worked for many years in secondary schools in Illinois, Texas, and Arizona. He was also a pastor.


Cornelius (Cor) Nefkens, O. Carm. (Neer)

Fr. Cor Nefkens, a member of the Dutch Province, died on November 4, 2005 at the age of 69. He was a member of the Carmelite Community in Hengelo.

Cor was born on May 12, 1936 in Maashees (Noord-Brabant) and professed his vows on September 10, 1956. He was ordained priest on July 9, 1961.


Serafino Lorenzoni, O. Carm. (Ita)

Fr. Serafino Lorenzoni, a member of the Italian Province, died on November 15, 2005, the Feast of All Carmelite Souls. He was a member of the Carmelite Community in Santa Marinella (Rome).

Fr. Serafino was born on October 10, 1921 in San Felice Circeo (Latina) and professed his vows on October 4, 1938. He was ordained priest on March 31, 1945.


Mª de San Eliseo Lopes Paiol, O. Carm. (SEV)

Sr. Maria de San Eliseo Lopes Paiol died on November 18, 2005 at 94 years of age and 63 years of consecrated life in the Order of Carmel.

She was born on March 11, 1911 in Penedono, Portugal, entering in the community at the age of 28. However because Spain was involved in a civil war at the time, her entry was delayed until she was 39 years old, two months after the war ended.

Always ready to follow the wishes of the superiors, in 1953, Sr. Maria de San Eliseo was sent with four other religious to the Carmelite monastery in Villalba del Alcor to strengthen that monastery. In 1954 she was sent to her native Portugal as part of the founding group of the Monastery of the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús in Beja.


Jeffry Fairfield, O. Carm. (PCM)

Fr. Jeffry Fairfield, a member of the PCM Province in America, died on November 28, 2005. He had been ill for several years and was in residence at the "St. John of God" nursing home in Los Angeles, California.

Fr. Jeffry was born on May 31, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois. He made his Simple Profession on August 15, 1940 and was ordained priest on June 8, 1946. He was 84 years old.


Patrick (Simon) Grace, O. Carm. (Hib)

Fr Simon Grace, O. Carm., a member of the Irish Province, died on November 29, following several months of declining health. Born on September 4, 1921, in Aglish, County Waterford, Patrick Grace joined the Order in 1941 taking Simon as his religious name.

He was ordained priest in 1948 and was appointed to the community and staff of Terenure College (Dublin) where he was to serve faithfully for the rest of his life.


Battista Mulè, O. Carm. (Ita)

Fr. Battista Mulè, a member of the Italian Province, died recently. He was a member of the Carmelite community in Messina (Sicily), Italy.

Fr. Battista was born on December 4, 1919 in Monforte San Giorgio (Messina). He made his First Profession on October 8, 1936 and was ordained priest on August 6, 1944.


Marinus van Wessum, O. Carm. (Neer)

Fr. Marinus (Marinus Antonius Bernardus) van Wessum, a member of the Dutch Province, died on December 6, 2005 at the age of 81. He was a member of the Carmelite community of Boxmeer.

For several years Fr. Marinus lived in Indonesia where he held a numbers of positions including treasurer of the Indonesian province. For more than 25 years he was the official representative of the Dutch Embassy for Malang and the surrounding area.

Marinus was born on August 8, 1924 in Hengelo and professed his simple vows on September 14, 1943. He was ordained priest on July 10, 1948.


María de San José Cano Montiel, O. Carm. (SEV)

Sr. María de San José died on December 9, 2005 at the age of 99 years. She was born on August 8, 1906 in Gines (Seville), Spain.

She made her Simple Profession in the Monastery of Santa Anna in Seville on December 12, 1929. She was the prioress and founder of several monasteries (Portugal, Guiguinto, and Las Palmas).


Venard Poslusny, O. Carm. (PCM)

Fr. Venard Poslusny, a member of the PCM Province, died on December 15, 2005 at the age of 83 years.

Fr. Venard was born on December 1, 1917 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He made his Simple Profession as a Carmelite on August 15, 1936 and was ordained priest on May 28, 1942.


Elia Debernitz, O. Carm. (BAT)

Sr. Elia Debernitz died on December 23, 2005 after a long illness in a nursing home in Kleve, Germany.

   Sr. Elia was born on October 16, 1924 in Lipine (Schlesien), Germany and entered the Monastery of "Holy Trinity" in Schlüsselau, Germany. That monastery is now in Erlangen.

   She professed her Simple Vows on May 4, 1957 and made her Solemn Profession on May 4, 1960. In 1962 Sr. Elia and two other German sisters from the monastery of Schlüsselau and two Indonesian sisters from the monastery in Boxmeer, The Netherlands traveled to Indonesia. They founded the Carmel in Batu, near Malang, Indonesia.

   Sr. Elia was bursar and a councilor of the Carmel in Batu. After 30 years in Indonesia she returned for health reasons to Germany but remained a member of the community in Batu.


Maria Giuseppina dello Spirito Santo, O. Carm. (JESI)

Sr. Maria Giuseppina dello Spirito Santo, O. Carm., died on December 31, 2005 at the age of 83 years. She was born Ester Valeri on September 22, 1922 in Spiano (Teramo), Italy.

She made her first profession in the monastery of Ss.ma Trinità di Jesi on April 21, 1941.


Maria Giovanna Villa, O. Carm. (SOG)

Sr. Maria Giovanna Villa, O. Carm., died on January 2, 2005 at the age of 92 years. She was born on October 28, 1913 in Figliaro (Como), Italy. She made her first profession in the monastery of Sogliano al Rubicone (Italy) on November 21, 1937.


Petronella Henriëtte van Krugten , O. Carm. (BOX)

Sr. Petra van Krugten, O. Carm., died on January 16, 2006 at the age of 85 years. She was born in Rotterdam (Zuid-Holland), The Netherlands, on January 29, 1920. She made her first profession on April 2, 1956.

She lived for many years in the monastery "Mutter vom guten Rat" in Duisberg. When that monastery was closed, she chose to return to Holland and lived at the monastery of "St. Anna" in Boxmeer, Holland.


Willibrorda ter Huurne, O. Carm. (BLA)

Sr. Willibrorda ter Huurne, O. Carm., died on January 20, 2006 at the age of 92 years. She was born in Buurse (Overisjsel), The Netherlands, on April 17, 1913. She made her first profession on January 17, 1942.

In 1956 she moved to Blackburn, England where she became prioress of the newly founded community of Carmelite nuns. In 1996, Sr. Willibrorda and the two remaining sisters of the community returned to Boxmeer to live at "St. Anna".


Sante Pizzol, O. Carm. (Ita)

    Fr. Sante Pizzol, a member of the Italian Province, died on January 24, 2006. He was born on April 20, 1916 in Montaner di Sarmede (Trevisio), Italy. He made his Simple Profession on January 1, 1934 and was ordained priest on June 27, 1940.

    He was a member of the Carmelite community in San Felice del Benaco.
