90 YEARS YOUNG

Sr. Chiara Pellizzoni, of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, celebrated her 90th birthday on December 16, 2002. On December 21, 2002, Cardinal Aloyisus M. Ambrozic, Archbishop of Toronto (Canada) celebrated a Eucharist in her honor at the parish of St. Jane Frances de Chantal in Toronto.

Sr. Chiara was born in Udine, Italy 1912. She made her Perpetual Vows in Florence, Italy in 1935. She did ministry in her native Italy until 1975. She then came to Toronto to assist in setting up a new house. She has continued to perform her ministry with the same vigor and commitment.

60 YEARS IN CARMEL CELEBRATED

            On Sunday, December 8, 2002 60 years of religious life of Sr. Maria Gabriella dell'Immacolata of the Carmelite Sisters of Grace in Bologna were celebrated. She is the only living member to witness the return of the male Carmelites to Bologna on October 26, 1936.

            A fraternal, prayerful wish for 100 years of life (October 14, 2004) and religious life (December 8, 2032) in the charism of intimacy with God and of service to the Church. – from Fr. Alberto Martino, O. Carm.


 

Carmelite Receives Doctorate from  the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome

            Salvador Villota Herrero, O. Carm., of the Aragovalentine Province received his doctorate from the Pontificio Istituto Biblico on December 17, 2002. He is the fourth member of the Order to receive a doctorate from the Biblicum since 1900.

            His thesis, entitled “Palabras Sin Ocaso: Estudio lingüístico-semántico sobre el valor interpretativo de Mc 13, 28-37 (Words Without End: A Linguistic-Semantic Study of the Interpretative Value of Mk 13: 28-37),” was praised by each of the members of the panel during his doctoral defense.

            Present for the defense was Salvador’s brother, as well as the Prior General and the members of the General Council, members of the Aragovalentine Province, and many friends and classmates of Salvador.

            Following the defense, CISA hosted a reception and dinner in honor of the new doctor.
