BOOKS

MARY THE CONTEMPLATIVE

  • by Joseph Chalmers, O. Carm.

In this work, Fr. Joseph Chalmers, the Prior General of the Carmelite Order, takes as his starting point the Marian year that the Order has been celebrating in 2001. He examines the foundations of Carmelite Marian spirituality and focuses on one aspect, that of Mary as she who listened to the Word of God and allowed that Word to shape her entire life.

Inspired by her example, Fr. Chalmers develops the theme of Our Lady as a model for each one of us as we seek to respond to the invitation to enter an intimate relationship of friendship with God.

The book contains six chapters and two appendices. The first has the letter of Pope John Paul II to the Carmelite Family on the occasion of the Carmelite Marian year. The second has the Rule, in the new English translation of Kees Waaijman, with the new numbering. (In English)

LA PENITENCIA HOY. CLAVES PARA UNA RENOVACION

  • by Fernando Millán Romeral, O. Carm.

An excellent reflection on some questions regarding the theology and the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation according to the new rite of the Church. Millán invites the reader to make use of the possibilities offered by the rite from a pastoral point of view. The Christian community, if it asks itself how to live out the forgiveness and reconciliation and does it honestly, must bear fruit. A fundamental criteria for this is love as a call to theological rigor and depth. (In Spanish)
