Frangisk Severju Caruana from the Balluta
Community died on January 31, 2003 at the age of 71
years. He was born on September 8, 1932 and entered Carmel
on the October 4, 1948. He made his solemn
profession on October 25, 1953 and was ordained to the
priesthood on March 17, 1956.
Paul Lennon, O. Carm.
Fr. Paul Lennon, O. Carm., of the Irish
Province, died on February 8, 2003, following a brave battle
with cancer. He was born June 29, 1936 and made his
first profession as a Carmelite on September 24, 1954. He
was 66 years of age.
Paul spent his ministry in the area of academics
and lectured for many years at the Milltown Institute
of Philosophy and Theology and was a few years its
president. Fr. Lennon's area was philosophy and his
doctoral thesis was on the German philosopher Fichte. He
also served the Order as the Delegate for Culture.
Ronald Gray, O. Carm.
Fr. Ronald Gray, O. Carm., of the PCM
Province, died on February 10, 2003. He was born on
March 22, 1918 and made his first profession as a
Carmelite on August 15, 1937.
Noted for his preaching, Ronald produced
recorded explanations of the Sunday Gospel to assist priests in
their homily preparations. He was co-founder of the
Matt Talbot Legion and produced a half-hour radio
program based on Matt Talbot which was played on over 400
radio stations worldwide. He also founded the
"Conference-A-Month Club" which distributed recorded
conferences, some featuring leading theologians of the day.
Ronald visited the Carmel of Lisieux in the
aftermath of World War II and along with Fr. Albert Dolan,
sought to gather what information he could about the life
and teachings of St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Among those nuns
he talked with were Pauline and Celine, Thérèse's
blood sisters and companions in the Lisieux Carmel.
He was 84 years of age.
Alfred Tabone, O. Carm.
Fr. Alfred Tabone, O. Carm., of the
Maltese Province, died on February 18, 2003. He was born
on July 31, 1926 and professed his solemn vows on
August 4, 1947.
From 1949- 57 and from 1960-69 he taught at
Mount Carmel College in Malta. From 1957-60 he studied at
the London Institute of Education and then became
chaplain to the British Forces in Malta until their withdrawal
in 1978.
From 1978 Alfred came to Britain and until 2002
he ministered at the Carmelite Parish in
Aberystwyth (Wales). He was known for his gentleness and
patience especially in his work as hospital chaplain. When
he retired in 2002 his work in the parish and hospital
were awarded by the civic and the medical authorities.
Lambertus Hermanus Nollen, O. Carm.
Fr. Lambertus Hermanus Nollen, O. Carm.,
of the General Commissariat of Lusitania
(Portugal), died on February 18, 2003. He was born on July 3, 1928
in Albergen, The Netherlands, and made his first
profession as a Carmelite on January 22, 1950 in Mogy das
Cruzes, Brazil. He was ordained a priest on December 8, 1955
in San Paulo, Brazil and went to Portugal in 1957.
Rosalía de Jesús León García, O. Carm.
Sor Rosalía de Jesúes León García, O.Carm.,
a member of the monastery of Santa Ana in Seville,
Spain, died on February 25, 2003 at the age of 83 years.
She made her simple profession in 1973.
María Cruz Morales Mollá, O. Carm.
Sr. María Cruz Morales Mollá, O.Carm., a
member of the monastery of Onteniente in Valencia, Spain, died
on March 1, 2003 at the age of 72 years. She made
her simple profession in 1956.
Johan Steneker, O. Carm.
Fr. Johan Steneker, O. Carm., a member of
the Dutch Province who served as Vice General of
the Order for six years, died in Holland on March
20, 2003. Born on June 4, 1928 in Heerenveen, Fr.
Johan made his simple profession of vows on September
10, 1949 and was ordained on July 10, 1955.
María Cruz Rodríguez Rubio, O. Carm.
Sr. María Cruz Rodríguez Rubio, O.Carm., a
member of the Carmelite monastery of Utrera (Seville), Spain,
died on March 6, 2003 at the age of 84 years. She made
her simple profession in 1950. |
