Maria Carmel Crespo Roig, O. Carm. (ONT)

Sr. Maria Carmel Crespo Roig, a member of the Carmelite community in Onteniente, Spain, died on February 4, 2006. She was born in Beniarrés (Alicante), Spain on March 25, 1912. She made her first profession on March 20, 1943.


Ignatius Widodo Kartautama, O. Carm. (Indo)

Fr. Ignatius Widodo Kartautama, a member of the Indonesian Province, died on February 8, 2006. He was born on November 18, 1935 in Blantikan (Jawa Tengah), Indonesia. He made his Simple Profession on August 15, 1961 and was ordained priest on July 26, 1967.

He was a member of the Carmelite community of Maria Bunda Karmel (Mary Mother of Carmel) in Jakarta when he died.


Patrick Bodkin, O. Carm. (Hib)

Fr. Patrick Bodkin, a member of the Irish Province, died on February 14, 2006. He was born on August 24, 1939 in Dublin. He made his Simple Profession on September 14, 1958 and was ordained priest on July 11, 1965.

He was a member of the Carmelite community at Whitefriar Street in Dublin when he died. In his forty years as priest, he ministered in various places and in particular in Zimbabwe and in Whitefriar Street.


Maria Francesca di Gesù (Ciliberti Carmela), O. Carm. (CAM)

On February 19, 2006, Sr. M. Francesca di Gesù (baptized as Ciliberti Carmela), O. Carm., died at the age of 87 years.

She was born on February 14, 1919 at Monte S. Angelo (Foggia), Italy and made her profession of Simple Vows in the Carmelite monastery of S. Maria del Carmine in Camerino, Italy, on August 24, 1950.


Egidio Lo Giudice, O. Carm. (Ita)

Fr. Egidio Lo Giudice, a member of the Italian Province, died on February 23, 2006. He was born on December 16, 1917 in Castiglione (Catania), Italy. He made his Simple Profession on October 5, 1935 and was ordained priest on July 25, 1943.

He was a member of the Carmelite community in Messina.


Francisco Ruiz Bustos, O. Carm. (Baet)

Fr. Francisco Ruiz, a member of the Baetica Province, died on February 23, 2006, following a brief illness. Fr. Francisco was born on December 24, 1934 in Guajar Fondón (Granada), Spain on December 24, 1934. He was a member of the Carmelite community of Hinojosa del Duque (Córdoba). He made his Simple Profession on June 24, 1952 and was ordained priest on December 29, 1959.

He was sent to Venezuela in 1960 and recently returned to the Province due to health concerns. He was continued to work in the Carmelite house in Córdoba and in the house in Hinojosa del Duque where he died.


Maria Sacramento Gandía Martínez (Concepción), O. Carm. (CAM)

On February 24, 2006, Sr. Maria Sacramento Gandia died at the Carmelite monastery in Camaná, Peru at the age of 85.

She was born in Valencia (Spain) on October 22, 1922. She made her first profession in the Carmelite monastery of Purísima Sangre de Cristo (Onteniente) on November 17, 1947.


Madre María Teresa Moreno Martín, O. Carm. (GRA)

On March 3, 2006, Mother Maria Teresa Moreno Martin, O. Carm., died at the age of 83 years. She was the sister of Fr. Manuel Moreno Martin of the Baetica Province and Sr. Alicia, a member of the Orihuela Carmelites.

She was born on January 11, 1923 and made her simple profession on December 10, 1942.

She was a member of the enclosed Carmelite community in the Monastery of the Incarnation in Granada, Spain.


Valentin Borg Gusman, O. Carm. (Mel)

On March 7, 2006, Fr Valentin Borg Gusman of the Maltese Province entered eternal life. He was 77 years old.

Valentin made his simple profession in the Order in 1946 and was ordained priest in 1952. After earning his doctorate at the Gregorian in Rome in 1956, he returned to Malta to teach Dogmatic Theology to our Students. From 1964 to 1967 he returned to Rome to teach Dogmatic Theology at the Studium Generale of the Order in St Albert’s College, where he also served as General Secretary for Studies.

Valentin was a well-known preacher and speaker in Malta, especially about the Blessed Virgin. He published a few books and many articles on the history of the Maltese Province and matters related to the Order, particularly its Marian dimension.


Peter Thomas Sherry, O. Carm. (PCM)

Fr. Peter Thomas Sherry, the senior member of the PCM Province, died on March 28, 2005. He was a member of the Carmelite Community in Peabody, Massachusetts.

Fr. Peter Thomas was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 12, 1912. He professed his simple vows on August 15, 1935 and was ordained priest on November 1, 1938.

He taught for many years at the Carmelite Junior Seminary in Hamilton, Massachusetts. When that seminary closed he moved to Peabody to be involved in the Carmelite Chapel at the Northshore Shopping Center.


María Ascensión del Santísimo Redentor Hernández, O. Carm. (DUM)

On November 2, 2005, All Souls Day, Sr. M. Ascención del Santísimo Redentor Hernández, O. Carm., died at the age of 96, one day before her birthday.

She was born on November 3, 1909 in Navacepeda de Tormes (Avila), Spain and made her profession of Simple Vows in the Carmelite monastery of Our Lady of Maravillas in Madrid on March 25, 1944. She was one of six sisters who founded the monastery in Dumaguete City, Philippines in 1958, the first monastery of the Carmelites in Asia.


María Inmaculada López Taveras, O. Carm. (SLC)


Sr. Maria Inmaculada López Taveras, O. Carm., of the Carmelite monastery of Santiago de los Caballeros, died on January 23, 2006, at the age of 77.

She was born in Licey al Medio (Santiago), Dominican Republic, on December 29, 1930. She made her Simple Profession on August 15, 1960.
