María Gloria del Carmelo Ferrer Marín, O. Carm. (POR)

Sr. María Gloria del Carmelo Ferrer Marín, of the Carmelite community of Carmelo de la Anunciación in Porlamar (Isla Margarita), Venezuela, died on November 10, 2003 at the age of 96 years.

She was born in Vigo (Pontevedra), Spain, on May 23, 1907. One of her brothers, also a Carmelite, was killed during the Spanish Civil War and is being considered for canonization.

Sr. María Gloria made her simple profession on April 29, 1934 at the monastery of the Encarnación. She served as novice director for the Carmel in Vilafranca and assisted at the Carmel in Bañoles in the 1950’s. In 1983 she went to Venezuela to found a new Carmel in Porlamar.


María Teresa Gómez Nava, O.Carm. (UTR)

On December 28, 2003, Sr. María Teresa Gómez Nava died at the Carmelite Monastery in Utrera, Seville, Spain. Sister was 84 years old.

  She was born in Hinojosa del Duque (Córdoba) on December 10, 1919. She made her first profession on May 31, 1944.


Ton Deenen, O. Carm. (Neer)

Fr. Dr. Ton Deenen, a member of the Dutch Province, died on Wednesday, February 4, 2004. Fr. Ton was born on April 12, 1926 in Den Bosch. He made his profession on October 3, 1946. After his philosophical and theological studies in Merkelbeek, he was ordained a priest on July 13, 1952.

He has served the Carmelite Order and the Church in the Netherlands in various important responsibilities. In recognition of his ministry, the Queen of the Netherlands awarded him the title "Officier in de Orde van Oranje Nassau" (Officer in the Order of the House of Orange) in April 1993.


M. Teresa dell’Eucaristia (Vinci), O. Carm. (OST)

Sr. M. Teresa Vicini, O. Carm., from the Carmelite monastery in Ostuni, died on February 5, 2004. She was born in Mesagne, Italy on September 29, 1915 and made her first profession on June 30, 1953.

  During her religious life, she served as prioress and as director of novices.


Francisco Cañete Sánchez, O. Carm. (Baet)

Br. Francisco Cañete Sánchez, a member of the Baetica Province died on Friday, February 6, 2004. Br. Francisco was born in Seville, Spain on February 27, 1920. He made his first profession on November 14, 1949.


Leo Broniszewski, O. Carm. (SEL)

A professed member of the St. Elias Province (USA), Fr. Leo Broniszewski died on Friday, February 6, 2004 of natural causes. He was born in Ossining, NY on July 1, 1931 and professed first vows on September 8, 1951. Leo was ordained to the priesthood on May 26, 1956 at St. Simon Stock Church in the Bronx, New York.

He was a pastor, teacher, and formation director and was noted for his retreats and ministry on the local radio station. He also became very involved in a variety of community and civic organizations.

He was 72 years old.


Heinrich Denzler, O.Carm (GerS)

On February 9, 2004, Br. Heinrich Denzler, O.Carm., member of the Upper German Province, died in Bamberg. He was born on October 9, 1930 in Oberharnsbach near Bamberg. He made his simple vows in Straubing on June 14, 1956. For over 40 years he was the gardener of the Carmelite house in Bamberg.


Martin Francis Sankey, O. Carm. (Brit)

Martin Francis Sankey, a member of the British Province, died on Friday, February 13, 2004 in his 29th year of religious profession.

Francis Sankey was born in Preston, Lancashire in 1933. After a career of some 20 years in the RAF he joined the Order of Carmelites in 1974 making his novitiate at The Friars, Aylesford and taking the name Martin. Following simple profession in 1975 he was sent to Rome where he completed the ordination course at the Beda College. He was ordained priest in 1979 at The Friars.

After ordination Martin worked for four years as shrine director at The Friars, before being appointed national spiritual director for Lay Carmelites in Britain - this task that he fulfilled with great energy and commitment for 20 years.

In 2002, as Martin’s health began to weaken, he was appointed as Chaplain to Nazareth House, Cheltenham.


Josefina García Magdaleno, O. Carm. (TAF)

Madre Josefina García Magdaleno of the Tafira Alta Carmelite community in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, died on February 21, 2004.

She was born on March 29, 1915 and made her first profession on February 3, 1942.

Maria de los Angeles Oriol Govantes, O. Carm. (OSU)

    On February 29, 2004, Sr. Maria de los Angeles Oirol Govantes of the Carmelite monastery in Osuna died. She was born in Osuna 83 years ago and lived in religious life for 52 years. She died from a very severe case of pneumonia.

    May God reward her for her humble service to us and be she be remembered in our prayer before God, the Father. May Mary protect her always.


Elisabeth van Noord, O. Carm. (Zen)

Sister Elisabeth van Noord of the monastery of Zenderen passed away on March 16, 2004, having been stricken by a very aggressive cancer. She was 31 years old.

Sister Elisabeth has born in Maassluis at March 9, 1973. She entered the Carmel of Zenderen and made her vows on June 10, 1996.


Barry Kremer, O. Carm. (PCM)

Barry Kremer, a member of the PCM Province, died on March 18 at a nursing home in Florida (USA). He was born in Urbana, Illinois on May 31, 1921 and made his first profession on August 15, 1940.  He was ordained a priest on June 8, 1946.


Jerónimo (Jacobus) Alleman, O. Carm. (Lus)

Jerónimo (Jacobus) Alleman, a member of the General Commissariate of Portugal, died on March 26, 2004.

He was born on November 23, 1913 in Noordwijk, Holland, and made his first profession on September 8, 1932. He was ordained a priest on July 10, 1938.

At the time of his ordination, he ministered in Holland. He then lived for a number of years in Sâo Paulo and Itú areas of Brazil. In 1985 he moved to Portugal and lived in the Fatima and Sameiro communities.


Jaime Ortiz Pérez, O. Carm. (Cast)

Br. Jaime Ortiz Pérez, a member of the Castille Province, died on March 31, 2004, in Salamanca. He was born in Ros (Burgos) on June 4, 1931. He made his novitiate in Carmona (Seville) and made his first profession on November 14, 1949. He was ordained a Deacon in El Henar on December 18, 1983.


Walter Albert Daly, O. Carm. (SEL)

Fr. Walter Albert Daly, O. Carm., a member of the St. Elias Province (USA), died on April 14, 2004 of natural causes.

Fr. Daly served as prior or procurator in many of the communities in which he lived. He was known on the international level of the Order from his ministry as "Master of Students" at Collegio di Sant’ Alberto in Rome from 1949-1956. He was ordained in Rome 71 years ago. He was a member of the Order for 77 years. Fr. Albert was 93.
